Beginning August 16, 2021, the RICA Written Test will be available for online proctoring.
What does this mean? Well, it means that test takers will now be able to complete the exam from home, or anywhere you have a wifi connection and a laptop!
Eligibility
Making sure that you have all the necessary equipment will be a must, so read the requirements below to ensure you have all the working parts.
Note that all test takers are required to provide their own equipment.
- Desktop or laptop computer – phones and other tablets are not permitted
- A single monitor – if you have additional monitors, such as for your desktop computer, you are required to unplug them
- For test takers using an external monitor with a laptop – you must also have an external mouse, keyboard, and webcam and the lid of your laptop must be closed
- Recommended – use a personal computer, instead of a work computer, which may have security settings that interfere with your access to the test
Internet Connection
The most common point of failure while taking the RICA exam remotely is experiencing a failed internet connection.
Don’t allow this to happen to you. Use all of the following steps to ensure that your online test taking process is smooth.
Pearson Education recommends the following tips:
- Use a wired internet connection rather than WiFi, if possible.
- If using WiFi, ask that other household members do not use the internet during your exam.
- Disconnect any VPNs if you have them
Testing Environment
Creating the best testing environment will give you a better chance at succeeding to pass your RICA exam.
Make sure that you comply with the following environment strategies that will not only help you out, but also your online test proctor.
- Find a quiet place to take the test
- Inform others in the place that you plan to take the test in that you will be unavailable during the time you are testing to make sure there are no unnecessary interruptions
- Sit in a well-lit place. The proctor must be able to easily see you while you take the test, and you will want the best lighting during the test, too
- You must be alone while you take the test, and there must be no others around you while completing the exam
Check-In
Technology can work in mysterious ways, and doing anything for the first time can take longer than expected. For these reasons, and to make sure you are as prepared as possible, adhere to the following recommendations:
- Push the Begin Exam button to check in at least 15 minutes before your test is scheduled to start
- Make sure that all other taps and browsers are closed on your computer
- To sign in, you’ll need to take a headshot to verify your identity, and you should find a white wall or background to do this
- Have your government-issued ID read and available for the check-in process
